Dresden School District
The Dresden School District was the first interstate school district in the United States formed under the New Hampshire-Vermont Interstate School Compact. It operates the Francis C. Richmond Middle School and Hanover High School in Hanover, New Hampshire. The Dresden School District is part of the SAU 70, which also operates the Bernice A. Ray Elementary School in Hanover, New Hampshire and the Marion Cross Elementary School in Norwich, Vermont. The Dresden School District and each elementary school has a separate board.
The bill which created this district was one of the last John F. Kennedy signed before his assassination in 1963.〔(Upper Valley League of Women Voters - Norwich )〕
==History==
During the period of the Vermont Republic several towns on the east side of the Connecticut River were part of Vermont. This included Hanover. Vermont statehood brought about establishment of the Connecticut River as a natural border, excluding Hanover.
